Creating Cute Curly Crowns

This was a fun project that is near and dear to my heart. As someone who has had a tumultuous relationship with their curly hair since birth, it has taken years of trial and error, sometimes tears for my curls and I to become friends.  

This was designed as a practice exercise while gaining my Learning Designer Certification. The challenge at the time was simply creating something that was both informative as well as visually interesting. 

Along with my learned knowledge from having curly hair, I did quite of bit of research on the more technical aspects of curly hair care.  I also had the opportunity to reach out to a community of curly haired people to learn more about their own hair journeys. 

The major take-away that everyone agreed on was that, there is a lot of trial and error and that everyone finds their own unique hair care technique. There are no right or wrong answers, only what's right for you, your lifestyle, and most importantly, your curl pattern.

This training provided an opportunity to compile some of the most impactful tips and techniques for caring for curly hair into a single, accessible resource. By centralizing this information, the course eliminates the need for learners to conduct their own research and highlights key considerations that are universally applicable. Additionally, this project allowed me to incorporate my own branding and explore creative design choices beyond the constraints of corporate marketing guidelines, fostering an environment where creativity could flourish. 

As part of my instructional design studies, this course was a valuable learning experience, though there are areas I would refine in a future iteration. Improvements I would consider include:

1. Incorporating Knowledge Checks Early in the Course: Adding assessments early in the training would help gauge learners’ prior knowledge, enabling more experienced participants to bypass general content and focus on advanced topics.

2. Enhancing Multimedia Integration: To cater to diverse learning preferences, I would add video walkthroughs, printable infographics or transcripts, and voice-over narration. These additions would make the course more dynamic and engaging, resulting in a more comprehensive learning experience.

Through this project, I not only developed a deeper understanding of instructional design principles but also identified actionable steps to enhance future training solutions.
